About this site
An independent fan site for
Open Design.
opendesigner.io is a fan-made resource site, not the official project. Open Design is an open-source project maintained by nexu-io and its contributors — Apache-2.0, BYOK, local-first. We are independent users of that project. We don't ship the code, we don't write the changelog, we don't speak for the maintainers. What we do is run an organised, multilingual, browsable mirror of what they ship.
On April 17, 2026, Anthropic Labs released Claude Design. It was the first time an LLM stopped writing prose about design and started shipping design artifacts you could hand to a client — designer Twitter, agencies, indie founders, all running the same demo: type a brief, watch a real prototype render in seconds. But it was closed-source, paid-only (Pro / Max / Team / Enterprise), cloud-only, and locked to Anthropic's model (Opus 4.7). No way to swap models, no self-host, no handing a project to a teammate without an active subscription.
Around the same time, three things were already true in the open ecosystem:
- The strongest coding agents already lived on people's laptops. Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini, OpenCode, Qwen, Copilot, half a dozen ACP-protocol terminals. None of them were "design tools" — but they had real Read / Write / Bash tools and could absolutely produce a designed artifact if you set up the loop right.
- Huashu Design had already cracked the prompt-stack philosophy that prevents AI slop — Junior-Designer mode, brand-asset protocol, 5-dimensional self-critique, the "5 schools × 20 design philosophies" library. Open, good, just no UI.
- Open CoDesign shipped the first open-source Claude-Design alternative — desktop Electron, MIT, beautifully simple. Bundled pi-ai as the agent runtime. Twelve TS skill modules. Proof that an OSS version was possible.
Open Design composed those three. Web app + local daemon (Vercel-deployable, phone-runnable) + file-based skills (drop a folder, restart the daemon, it appears) + BYOK to whichever CLI you have + 141 portable design systems as 9-section Markdown + Claude Design ZIP import + Apache-2.0 top to bottom. The work belongs to nexu-io and its contributors at github.com/nexu-io/open-design — please direct issues, pull requests, and feature requests there, not at us.
**This site exists because reading a 700-line README isn't always how you discover a tool.** opendesigner.io is what we made for ourselves and decided to share: a 13-page guided tour of the project — Hero, Skills catalog, Design Systems gallery, three-way comparison against Claude Design and Open CoDesign, Showcase with real prompts you can copy, a curated changelog. Available in 15 UI languages. Independent of the project, friendly to the project, useful when you don't want to clone the repo just to look. Questions, corrections, broken-link reports: [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]).

Design-philosophy compass
huashu-design ↗
Junior-Designer workflow, 5-step brand-asset protocol, anti-AI-slop checklist, 5-dimensional self-critique, and the 5 schools × 20 design philosophies behind Open Design's direction picker.
op7418
Deck mode
guizang-ppt-skill ↗
Bundled verbatim under skills/guizang-ppt/ with original LICENSE preserved. Magazine-style layouts, WebGL hero, P0/P1/P2 checklist culture borrowed for every other Open Design skill.
OpenCoworkAI
Closest peer · UX north star
open-codesign ↗
Streaming-artifact loop, sandboxed-iframe preview, live agent panel (todos + tool calls + interruptible), five-format export, comment-mode preview annotations. Form factor differs deliberately — open-codesign ships Electron + pi-ai, Open Design ships web + local daemon + your CLI.
multica-ai
Daemon architecture
multica ↗
PATH-scan agent detection, the local daemon as the only privileged process, the agent-as-teammate worldview. Open Design adopts the architectural model; the multica code itself is not vendored.
